Family leaves

Work-sharing leave

A work-sharing leave is free time of 90-359 days, during which time the employee's employment contract is dormant. For this time, the employee will be paid a work-sharing compensation. For members of an unemployment fund, the work-sharing compensation will be paid by the fund; for others, Kela will pay the compensation.

For more information, please see Alma.

Leave of absence

There must always be a well-grounded reason for a leave of absence. When considering a leave of absence on the grounds of private reasons, the University of Helsinki will consider how the leave will affect the work community and the workload of its members. These things will also be considered for employees seeking partial leave of absence for retiring partially.

The University of Helsinki will allow a leave of absence based on private reasons for a maximum consecutive period of two years, unless there are especially weighty motives for a longer leave.

Study leave

Study leave may be granted for studies at an institution under public supervision.
