Smartphones are powered with numerous sensors. However, the App model for these sensors is currently vogue. There are a number of reasons. Frist one is the limited battery power of smartphones. Second, it is still ongoing research how to make sense out of different sensor data. Third, the heterogeneity of devices may not allow running the same sensor API for multiple devices.

Although there is cloud to assist to process the data, the amount of data generated by these sensors creates extra pressure on the user for data transport. The pressure is not only on the user.  With the rise of IoT devices, there will be a paradigm shift in the present consumer data model from the service provides. Therefore, there is a need to process the data even before the data is entering into the network. We are working towards smartphone data analytics frameworks for Android and iOS devices. We are using Funf (a data collection framework) from MIT to collect around 30 different information from smartphones.  Of course, there should encouraging motivation for the end user to host such data analytics for the user.

Although we are working on both Android and iOS, your task will be writing API for the Android framework and energy optimization of the API. The programming language is GoLang.  We already have Android application integrated with GoLang and Funf. You can apply even if you do not know GoLang, but you should have strong background on data structure and algorithms. This is a ongoing research, and therefore the topic will be available for a short period of time.
