Mobile Energy Management on Carat (several topics)
Carat is a free app that tells you what is using up the battery of your mobile device, whether that's normal, and what you can do about it. Carat application collects data from over 800 000 Android and iOS devices worldwide, and we use these crowdsourced measurements in multipurpose research in energy and usage modeling. Our target is to offer active energy recommendations to our users, such as energy-hungry applications and misconfigured system settings. Read more about the project: http://carat.cs.helsinki.fi/
MSc topics in the Carat project can be related but are not limited to mobile energy analysis, big data management, and distributed data analysis algorithms. Depending on your topic, skills in mobile development (Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Android Wear, etc), distributed computing (Spark, Scala, Hadoop, etc), or data analysis algorithms may be necessary. There is also a possibility for topics related to user experience and usage of the Carat app. If you are interested, take contact to the Carat team: professor Sasu Tarkoma, Ella Peltonen, or Eemil Lagerspetz.
