International scientific activities

The general postgraduate studies as stated in the degree requirements include international scientific activities (582723). Such activities could be related to events like (activities listed in parentheses)

  • international conferences (participation, writing an article [which must be accepted], reviewing an article, giving a presentation, presenting a poster, acting as a volunteer in the arrangements)
  • international journal articles (writing an article [which must be accepted], reviewing)
  • international research visits (visiting a research group for cooperation, giving a guest lecture)
  • international research cooperation (participation in international projects and meetings, writing joint publications)

In all cases, there should be some international and scientific activity included. For example, such activities when arranging a conference may be duties at the conference registration and info desk, technical support to the speakers during a session, or acting as a workshop contact person.

Credit points are given based on an application (use this form: pdf, docx). The application should describe in appropriate detail the extent and nature of the international scientific activity.

A maximum of 9 credit points altogether for international scientific activities may be given (in the general postgraduate studies). A suggestion for the amount of points for each category of activities is

  • participation: 1 cr/conference, max 3 cr; 2 cr/research visit week, max 6 cr
  • presentation: 1 cr/conference, summer school presentation, or poster presentation, or guest lecture, max 3 cr
  • writing: 1 cr/accepted journal or conference article, max 3 cr
  • reviewing: 0.5 cr/conference or journal article, max 3 cr
  • cooperation and arrangements: 1 cr/conference arrangements, cooperation credit points according to supervisor's discretion, max 3 cr

Note that the degree requirements state that the general postgraduate studies also must include studies in the philosophy of the discipline, in research ethics and in preparing the student for specialist work, in addition to international scientific activities.

Please return the signed application to the secretary of the DoCS steering commmittee (i.e. the research coordinator of the department).
