Distributed Systems : Slack

We are exploring with a new communication tool in this year’s course for better interaction among students and between students and the teachers. As the platform, we are trying out Slack. You can join the discussion by signing up at https://uhcs-distsys15.slack.com/signup using your helsinki.fi or cs.helsinki.fi email address. Registration and participation are voluntary. You can find more information about Slack on https://slack.zendesk.com/hc/en-us

The goal is to make discussions around the course, articles, and exercises transparent to everyone so that all course participants will benefit from the questions, answers, and discussion. The course and this channel are all about learning, and a big part of the channel is to instigate meaningful conversations about the various topics we are going to encounter during the course. So, feel totally free to answer, comment or just express your feelings in any of the discussions, but remember to stay polite and correct. Any kind of talking down is categorically not tolerated.

This does not mean that we (Jussi and Ossi) are a 24/7 hotline with immediate answers to all questions. :-) We obviously do our best to respond to questions in a timely fashion, but cannot guarantee any specific response times. Best way to get a quick answer is to come see us during course meetings on Monday and Thursday, during office hours, or just by dropping by our offices for urgent matters. Some of the exercises in the course have been specifically designed to make you plan your own use of time and an integral part of that is knowing to ask help early enough. :-)

We hope to see most of you on Slack.
