Joint call for bioinformatics internship positions in 2015
Master's level education in bioinformatics is offered by several (sub)programmes in the Helsinki area: such programmes are organized at the Department of Biosciences, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and Department of Computer Science of the University of Helsinki, and at the Department of Information and Computer Science of the Aalto University.
As a part of their degree, bioinformatics students typically intern for 3 months in a research group or company with the aim of learning bioinformatics in practice. For an employer, bioinformatics internship gives an opportunity to find capable students for Master's thesis or postgraduate projects. The students typically take the internship phase after studying bioinformatics in a Master's programme for one year.
Internship takes place usually in summer between teaching periods (In 2015, May 11th - August 31st). The time and duration of intership is agreed between the employer and student. The programmes require that the student is employed by the internship site for the duration of the internship.
Credits for the intership are awarded when the student submits a letter of reference from the employer.
Bioinformatics internship position announcements are published on a web page at https://www.cs.helsinki.fi/en/node/81439 on 2nd February 2015.
Students contact the internship sites directly and negotiate the details of the internship with the site.
